Application requirements

Be prepared when you apply to connect or disconnect

Register at Sydney Water Tap in® if you need to apply for a connection or disconnection. Make sure you have the information you need to support your application and know if the connection you're applying for is the right one. 


Water and recycled water applications

Use this application for connections to houses, small multi-unit developments and some small businesses.

What you need to do

To support your application, you'll need to provide the property address or Sydney Water property number.
 

What we'll do

We'll approve this connection right away for most applications. We'll assess the connection within 21 days if your property:

  • doesn't have direct frontage to a connectable water main
  • is in a low water pressure area
  • is already connected to our water main. 

Use this application to request a meter on your connection. This application is free.

What you need to do

You'll need to provide your property address or Sydney Water property number.
 

What we'll do

We'll fit your meter within 10 working days.

Use this application for properties that don't have direct access to our water mains. You'll own the pipe that connects to our main and goes to your property. You'll also be responsible for maintaining it.

What you need to do

To support your application, you'll need to provide the property address or Sydney Water property number, and a plan showing:

  • where the service will go and where it will enter your property
  • proposed connection point
  • nearby properties and roads
  • where the meter will be installed. 

What we'll do

We'll assess the connection within 21 days. We'll issue an additional services agreement for this connection. 

Use this application for properties that need a greater water supply. It may be suitable for some fire services.

What you need to do

To support your application you must provide:

  • property address or Sydney Water property number
  • evidence the property owner has applied for our Section 73 Compliance Certificate
  • site plan showing building locationwhere you plan to connect to our water main and where you want to install the meter.

What we'll do

We'll give approval for 25 mm connections right away for developments of up to 17 units with no hose reel. We'll assess other applications within 21 days.

Use this application for very large developments with high water demand. It's suitable for fire services.

What you need to do

To support your application, you'll need to provide:

  • your property address or Sydney Water property number
  • evidence the property owner has applied for our Section 73 Compliance Certificate
  • a Sydney Water statement of pressure and flow less than 12 months old
  • a site plan showing building location, proposed point of connection and where the meter will be located.

What we'll do

We'll assess the application within 21 days. When we approve your application, we'll tell you how to request a quote and engage us to do the work. Only Sydney Water can make this type of connection to our pipes.

Use this application to pump directly from our water supplies. You don't need our permission if there's a storage tank in between the connection and the pump.
 

What you need to do

If you need to apply, you'll need to provide:

  • a statement of pressure and flow less than 12 months old
  • pump details and a pump curve. We'll give you a maximum volume and pressure that you can pump as a condition of connection.
     
What we'll do

We'll assess your application within 21 days. We'll have an additional services agreement with you for this connection.

Use this application when you want to know the pressure and available flows in our water supply system. The statement supports your application for a large connection or when you need to certify fire-fighting requirements.

What you need to do

To support your application you must provide:

  • your property address or Sydney Water property number
  • the location of the main or mains you want to connect to.

What we'll do

We assess applications in the order we receive them. We'll provide your statement within 42 days for standard applications. Please allow for this in your project timing. 

If you have special needs you want us to consider (for example, if you need the pressure on a water main that's not yet in our system), email the Hydraulic Assessment team at hydraulicassessment@sydneywater.com.au. Our statement is valid for one year.

Use this application to disconnect your water services.

Wastewater and stormwater applications

Use this application to connection to our wastewater system using an existing wastewater connection point (junction).

What you need to do

You'll need to provide the property address or Sydney Water property number.
 

What we'll do

We'll assess the application in 21 days.

Use this application to make a new point of connection (junction) in our wastewater system and connect to it.

What you need to do

You'll need to provide the property address or Sydney Water property number. If you need more than one wastewater connection point, provide a plan that shows:

  • total site area
  • ground floor layout
  • proposed points of connection to our wastewater main.

What we'll do

We'll assess your application within 21 days.

Use this application to make a short extension (less than 12 metres) so you can connect to our wastewater system. If your extension is going to be more than 12 metres long, you need to call us on 13 20 92 8am–5:30pm Monday to Friday (except public holidays).

What you need to do

To support your application you'll need to provide:

  • your property address or Sydney Water property number
  • a plan showing where the property is in relation to our existing wastewater main
  • the proposed location of the extension.
     
What we'll do

We'll assess your application within 21 days.

Use this application to pump your wastewater up to a gravity wastewater system or connect to a pressure sewer system.

What you need to do

You must provide:

  • your property address or Sydney Water property number
  • details of the maximum and average daily discharge from your property
  • evidence to show that it is more cost effective to pump to wastewater than extend the gravity system (unless you're in a pressure sewer area).

What we'll do

We'll assess your application within 21 days. We'll have an additional services agreement with you for this connection.

Use this application to discharge wastewater polluted by business activities.

What you need to do

You'll need to provide:

  • your property address or Sydney Water property number
  • the trading name of the business
  • a contact person at the property
  • the business activities that will produce trade wastewater
  • details about when you will start discharging
  • details about any existing pre-treatment or pre-treatment you plan to install
  • a site plan that shows the property water and wastewater services, including your boundary trap, and the wastewater connection point you will discharge trade wastewater to
  • relevant details if you want to pump wastewater
  • details about any discharge meter you plan to use
  • evidence you have applied for our Section 73 Compliance Certificate if it's needed for your type of development.

We'll assess your application within 21 days.

Use this application to apply for a direct connection to our stormwater pipes or channels. You don't need to apply to us if your stormwater will flow into council-owned gutters or stormwater pipes.
 

What you need to do

To support your application, you'll need to provide a site plan showing your proposed point of connection.
 

What we'll do

We'll assess your application within 21 days. We'll give you the requirements for large developments in our notice of requirement which you'll get after you apply for our certificate.
