The Sydney Water Innovation Festival (SWIF) is a dynamic and engaging gateway to exchange innovative ideas and creative solutions to water-related challenges and beyond.
SWIF takes place every 2 years, with pre-event activities in the lead-up to the event. We focus on highlighting our commitment to promoting a culture of innovation by pushing boundaries and engaging national and international innovators to fast-track business improvements and demonstrating industry leadership.
SWIF themes vary, based on the latest trends in the water sector and beyond, as well as emerging and future innovations. We focus on big ideas like:
On 4 and 5 March 2025, SWIF25 brought together more than 300 leaders and innovators to connect, share ideas and unlock different ways of thinking, as well as strategies on driving and scaling up sustainable innovation to create real impact.
We discussed how the complex challenges of this time require new ways of thinking, building innovation capabilities, and the need for collaboration and partnerships between experts in industry, government and academia to ignite positive change.
We thank all the participants, sponsors and stakeholders who made SWIF25 a remarkable event.

A key highlight of the event was the showcases of new ideas from the Sydney Water Design Incubator teams.
To prepare for the showcases, 60 participants from different parts of the organisation worked in cross-functional teams to address 9 identified Sydney Water challenges. The program generated an impressive total of 1,118 ideas. Of these, 21 were tested on end users, and 12 were selected as top ideas.
All participants had the opportunity to meet like-minded innovators.
