Bonds Creek carrier extension

Meeting future demand

We're delivering new wastewater infrastructure to the South West Growth Area and parts of the Western Sydney Aerotropolis. It will service new dwellings in the area and meet predicted future demand.

About this project

The NSW Government has identified the Austral Leppington catchment as a key growth area. It sits along the eastern front of the South West Growth Area and parts of the Western Sydney Aerotropolis. This catchment will see substantial growth over the coming years, increasing from 2,300 dwellings in 2022 to around 38,000 dwellings by 2056.

To enable this growth and development, we're delivering a number of critical water and wastewater assets. These include the Bonds Creek carrier extension, which is a 1.4-kilometre extension to the recently completed wastewater network delivered by the Austral Leppington Wastewater Stage 3 Phase 1 project.

The Bonds Creek Carrier Extension will enable previously delivered wastewater infrastructure as part of the Austral Leppington project to be discharged to the Upper South Creek Advanced Water Recycling Centre at Kemps Creek. Expanding the wastewater network will further increase servicing capacity for the network consistent with planned objectives.

Benefits

When operational, this project will see the local wastewater network extended to service an additional 2,000 lots across the catchment.

Project timeline

2023: Preliminary investigations
Throughout 2023, survey and geotechnical investigations were undertaken along proposed concept alignment to inform the design process by identifying ground conditions and locating services.
2023: Review of Environmental Factors (REF)
The REF was completed in 2023. You can find it under 'Documents' on this page.
2024: Appoint delivery partner
In late 2024, we appointed Quickway as our delivery partner and began construction.
2024 to 2026: Construction
Construction started in late 2024 and will continue until 2026.
2026: Completion
We expect the wastewater infrastructure to be operational by 2026 in line with the commissioning requirements for the Upper South Creek Advanced Water Recycling Centre at Kemps Creek.

FAQs

The key purpose of this project is to deliver new wastewater infrastructure to service new dwellings in the area and meet future predicted demand.

In late 2024, Sydney Water appointed Quickway as our delivery partner, with construction to follow. The wastewater infrastructure is expected to be operational by 2026, in line with the commissioning requirements for the Upper South Creek Advanced Water Recycling Centre at Kemps Creek.

The Bonds Creek carrier extension will enable previously delivered wastewater infrastructure as part of the Austral Leppington project to be discharged to the Upper South Creek Advanced Water Recycling Centre at Kemps Creek. The expansion of the wastewater network will further increase servicing capacity for the network consistent with planned objectives.

Please refer to our interactive Growth Servicing Plan and map to see if your development falls within the servicing area for water and wastewater.

For owners of existing dwellings in the Stage 3 Phase 1 catchment, you have not been automatically allocated capacity. You will need to engage a listed water servicing coordinator, who can assist you with lodging an application to connect directly to our system.
