Only use pre-treatment items listed below, size them to meet your maximum hourly flow, and have them installed by a licensed plumber to meet Australian standards, Workplace Health and Safety standards and our guidelines. We may ask you to remove items of pre-treatment that aren't listed. If you want to use an unlisted product, call 02 9616 2485 or 1300 985 227 to check first.

How to list new pre-treatment items
If you manufacture or supply items in the categories below, apply to list pre-treatment equipment in our area of operations. If you manufacture or supply other pre-treatment products, please email your request to businesscustomers@sydneywater.com.au.

Listed pre-treatment items

To meet our requirements, you must:

  • ensure the oil-water separator is the right size for your business needs
  • use the appropriate pump type
  • arrange for a licensed plumber to install the grease trap
  • use only lids or covers specified by the manufacturer for the installation
  • ensure the installation and lids meet Australian Standards, Workplace Health and Safety standards and our requirements
  • ensure adequate clearance above the grease trap (at least equal to the deepest part of the greasetrap) to allow for safe, easy access to clean and inspect it
  • ensure stands, walkways and steps meet Australian Standards and Workplace Health and safety guidelines.
