Smalls Creek carrier duplication

Supporting the growing community

We're installing a new wastewater pipe along Smalls Creek in Kellyville to support the growing community.

About this project

We're installing a new wastewater pipe along Smalls Creek in Kellyville to support the growing community. This is one of several projects that will help service growth in the Metro North West Urban Renewal Corridor between Cherrybrook and Tallawong.

We did investigations in early 2024 to help plan our work. We'll be back in 2026 to start construction. The new pipe will closely follow the existing pipe that runs through Smalls Creek between Marella Avenue and Maeve Avenue. We'll also create temporary access tracks to our work area from Bernie Mullane Complex.

Benefits

The new pipe will help support the growing community in the Metro North West Urban Renewal Corridor. This area is expected to have 24,000 new homes between Cherrybrook and Tallawong by 2026.

Impacts

  • Tree removal
We need to clear vegetation around our work area and along the access tracks. This includes trees, weeds and ground cover. When construction is finished, we'll restore the area and replant native trees and plants. We'll follow Sydney Water Biodiversity Offset Guidelines, which include replacing any native vegetation that is impacted at a 3:1 ratio.
  • Noise
You may hear some very loud noise when we use chainsaws, woodchippers and rock-breaking machines. The noise level will depend on how close you are to the work and the type of home you live in. We'll keep noise to a minimum, avoid unnecessary loud noises and follow all measures in the construction environmental management plan.
  • Vibration
Some equipment may cause vibration. We'll follow all measures in the construction environmental management plan to manage vibration impacts.
  • Pedestrian detours
When work starts, we'll close the footpath near Smalls Creek to keep the community safe. At times, we'll also close the footbridge near Maeve Avenue. There will be a pedestrian detour and signage.
  • Traffic management
There will be frequent vehicle movements in and out of the site from Marella Avenue during our standard working hours. Truck movements will vary each day. When needed, traffic controllers will help keep traffic moving safely and reduce disruption.

At times, we may need to deliver large equipment outside standard work hours to reduce impacts on daytime traffic flows.

Our work hours are 7am–6pm Monday to Friday and 8am–1pm on Saturdays. No work is planned for Sundays or public holidays.

Project timeline

February 2024: Site investigations
We've conducted investigations to confirm ground conditions and the location of our pipes and other services to help save time during construction.
February 2026: Site compound preparation work
We plan to set up a site compound next to Bernie Mullane Sports Complex. This area will be used to store our equipment and materials.
March 2026: Construction starts
We'll remove trees, set up our work areas and install the pipe within Smalls Creek.
Late 2026: Construction finished
We'll pack up our work areas and compounds. After our work is finished, we'll restore our work areas and replant native vegetation within Smalls Creek.
