Evergreen vigorous vine (climbs 5m ) from Brazil. Bright green ovate leaves on woody stems with thorns. Bright floral display from colourful bracts. Many named colour varieties in white; yellow; red; scarlet; rose and purple. Useful for climbing over a trellis or wall. Requires securing to a strong support. Dwarf and shrub forms available. Prune to keep under control and avoid thorns. Needs a warm sunny position. Semi-drought tolerant. Frost sensitive.
