- Physical descriptionWindsor (Elevated) Reservoir is an elevated cast iron reservoir, on a tubular pipe stand, with nine legs, bolted together, with horizontal and diagonal bracing. Upon the stand two plates are affixed, one inscribed: "F. J. Mortley / Mayor / 1889", the other: "John F. Sharkey / Civil Engineer / Sydney". Standard features include: depth gauge board, access ladder, handrails and inlet and outlet valve chambers. Adjacent to the elevated reservoir is an in-ground reservoir (WS 0140), concrete, unroofed and also disused. It has an unusual central cylindrical iron tank, possibly for filtering the water supply from the Hawkesbury River. The adjacent depot has now been leased by Hawkesbury Radio. Full Service Level: 33.5 m. Capacity: 0.95 ML. The listing includes the reservoir, the adjacent concrete reservoir and all associated pipework, valves and valve houses to the property boundary.
- Modifications madeThe reservoir has been roofed to safeguard water quality (1960s-1970s).
- HistoryWindsor (Elevated) Reservoir was constructed in 1889 for Windsor Council. The only treatment of the water, as it was pumped up from the Hawkesbury River, was discharge over an alumino-ferric block on gird before emptying into the adjacent concrete in ground reservoir. The water supply was augmented over the years and was taken over by MWS&DB in 1951.
