Sydney Water started construction of the Glossodia, Freemans Reach and Wilberforce Sewerage Scheme in March 2009. The scheme will provide improved sewerage services to about 1,660 properties in the three towns.
Pressure sewerage system equipment will be supplied to and installed on eligible properties for free if they commit to connecting while construction crews are still in the area. The project team will contact property owners to arrange a time to discuss connection options.
Three pumping stations and more than 50 km of sewerage pipes will transfer waste to the Richmond Sewage Treatment Plant. The plant already supplies recycled water to the University of Western Sydney and Richmond Golf Club for irrigation. The new flows from the three towns to the plant will supply a growing recycled water market.
Properties in Freemans Reach can now connect to the sewer and should contact their licensed plumber/drainer to arrange their connection.
Sewer connections are expected to be progressively available to Glossodia from mid-2010 and Wilberforce by early 2011.
Hawkesbury City Council is the regulatory authority for on-site septic systems and will be encouraging property owners to connect to the new system as soon as it is ready. They require the following types of properties to connect within six months of the sewer becoming available:
