Sydney Water apologises to those affected by the water main break in Paddington, on Tuesday 24 August.
Sydney Water is looking into what caused the incident. Sydney Water has a proactive leak detection and repair program. We replace over 100 km of pipes each year. The joint on the water main that broke was not overdue for replacement. However, it appears the joint holding the cap on the end of the pipe may have failed.
This could be due to a number of things for example, pressure fluctuations, traffic flow, temperature changes or soil movement.
The lower end of Oatley Road remains closed. Moore Park Road is now open. Pedestrians can use the footpaths as normal. Please contact the Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) for more information on 13 17 00.
We are continuing to work with affected people, so if you have an enquiry please call Sydney Water on 13 20 92.
A $60 million investment in delivering renewable energy projects that capture energy from water and wastewater systems has helped Sydney Water secure a NSW Government Green Globe Award.
The investment covers new cogeneration engines and hydro-electric generators that will help Sydney Water capture 20 per cent of its energy needs from its own operations.
