Sydney Water is committed to providing accurate and accessible information to the community about the desalination project.

Sydney Water will continue to work closely with local communities, councils and local groups to ensure that project impacts are kept to a minimum and to keep them informed of project activities.

Community information sessions

Plant construction activities started in September 2007 and pipeline work started in February 2008.

Community information sessions will be held along the pipeline route over the next few months. These sessions will provide more information about construction activities and the desalination project. Project team members will be on hand to answer questions and to provide further details on the pipeline route, construction methods and any potential impacts.

Information sessions were held in Kurnell in early February 2008. Similar sessions will be held at other key locations in the near future. Invitations will be sent to affected residents and businesses and advertised here and in the local press. All are welcome to attend.

Project Liaison Group

Sydney's Desalination Project Liaison Group provides an important forum for Sydney Water, its contractors and alliance partners to work with representatives of the local community to minimise impacts and concerns in the Kurnell area. Eight community representatives were chosen after a public call for nominations in December 2007. These representatives will attend regular meetings over the next two years.

The aim of the group is to encourage open communication about the project, address key community issues or concerns, provide feedback to members of the group and to seek community input to project issues, where possible.

The group's Terms of Reference (PDF - 42KB) provide an overview of the group and how it operates. The Group is chaired by an independent chairperson and group members were chosen through an open nomination process.
