Sydney Water is investing a record $1.9 billion on water infrastructure as part of the State Government's 2008-09 budget - an increase of $370 million from 2007-08.
Over the next four years, Sydney Water is delivering its largest capital expenditure program of $5 billion in Sydney, Illawarra and the Blue Mountains.
Most of Sydney Water's total investment in recycled water will be made in Western Sydney. Spending on these recycling schemes will increase over time as they progress.
2008-09 will see construction and expansion of several schemes, including:
$92 million on the Western Sydney Recycled Water Replacement Flows project at St Marys. This plant will produce high quality recycled water that will replace 18 billion litres of Warragamba Dam water each year. Construction of the Advanced Water Treatment Plant and related pipelines is due to start in June
$20 million on Australia's second largest residential recycling scheme at Hoxton Park. This construction is also scheduled to commence in June, and the total scheme is estimated to cost $65 million
$9 million on the Quakers Hill recycled water scheme
$6 million to further expand the Rouse Hill Recycled Water Plant which is already supplying Australia's largest residential scheme.
Sydney Water has forecast it will spend more than $24 million on capital works in the Illawarra region next financial year. $18 million of this will enable water and wastewater assets to be remotely controlled and monitored.
$886 million will be invested in 2008-09 on the Sydney Desalination Project. This project is on track to deliver up to 250 million litres of drinking water a day by the summer of 2009-10.
