This autumn, Sydney Water will be working with local garden centres to help Sydney’s green thumbs save water in their gardens.
Managing Director Kerry Schott said Sydney Water was running the Water Smart Garden Centres promotion at four Sydney garden centres during autumn to give people practical advice about using water wisely while enjoying their gardens.
“As much as a third of the water used by residential properties can be used outdoors, for activities such as watering gardens and lawns,” Dr Schott said.
“There are many ways people can reduce water use in their gardens and improve the health and wellbeing of their plants at the same time.
“For example, placing plants in the most suitable position of a garden and improving soil reduces the amount of water a garden needs.
“Sydney Water has given staff at the four garden centres professional development training so they can provide customers with expert advice on how to improve their soil composition and where to place new plants.
“Customers visiting the Water Smart Garden Centres will also find information on Sydney Water’s rebates and other water saving programs.
“This promotion is part of Sydney Water’s long-term strategy for helping people save water in their gardens. We also have an online plant selector on our website and have been running the Love Your Garden program, in which trained horticulturists assess gardens and provide tailored watering plans, since February 2007.”
