Kiama Golf Club signed a new ten-year recycled water agreement with Sydney Water today.
Kiama Golf Club uses an average of 100 million litres of recycled water each year.
Sydney Water Managing Director Kerry Schott said that by signing the new ten-year supply agreement, the golf club will be able to help save Kiama’s drinking water for drinking.
“Kiama is one of six golf courses that is supplied with recycled water from Sydney Water,” said Dr Schott.
“Kiama Golf Club should be commended for their commitment to conserving drinking water.
“Kiama Golf Club has been receiving recycled water from Sydney Water’s Bombo sewage treatment plant since 1997.
“The club’s commercial arrangement with Sydney Water allows for the irrigation of the golf course without wasting town water.
“It also reduces the amount of treated effluent discharged via ocean outfalls. This is a double win for the environment.
“By using recycled water instead of drinking water the golf club is also saving around $116,000 each year.
Sydney Water currently recycles around 22 billion litres of water each year and that figure will rise to 70 billion litres a year by 2015.
