Plans for new sewerage scheme to go on display

Plans for a new sewerage scheme at Hawkesbury Heights and Yellow Rock will be put on public display for comment from Monday 18 February.

The proposed Hawkesbury Heights and Yellow Rock Sewerage Scheme was part of the NSW Government’s Priority Sewerage Program. Plans will be on display in the Springwood Central Library and the Winmalee Neighbourhood Centre.

The proposal involves providing sewerage services to about 340 residents in Hawkesbury Heights and Yellow Rock and transferring the wastewater to Winmalee Sewage Treatment Plant.

Sydney Water’s proposal is detailed in a Review of Environmental Factors, which will be on public display from Monday 18 February to Friday 14 March.

Sydney Water will hold an information session on Saturday 23 February for residents to ask questions and find out more about the scheme during the display period.

The sessions will provide an overview of the scheme, including what areas will be serviced, how to connect and the costs involved.

Sydney Water will accept submissions on the Review of Environmental Factors until 21 March 2008.

Construction on the scheme was expected to begin in early 2009, subject to finalising the environmental assessment process and the receipt of planning and funding approvals.

The scheme is adjacent to the World Heritage listed Blue Mountains National Park and has been given priority to ensure its unique environment is protected.

Once residents are connected to the system they will no longer have to pay septic tank maintenance and pump-out fees.

Community information session:

Saturday 23 February 2008 from 9.30am to 11.30am.
Springwood Winmalee Guide Hall, Singles Ridge Road, Yellow Rock.

For more information on the scheme phone the free community information line on 1800 255 788 or visit the Hawkesbury Heights and Yellow Rock Sewerage Scheme page on the Sydney Water website.
