Next step for Hoxton Park Recycling Scheme

Another major recycling project in the NSW Government’s Metropolitan Water Plan has taken a step forward with the Decisions Report for the proposed Hoxton Park recycled water scheme completed.

When completed, the first stage of the scheme will provide over two billion litres of recycled water each year to residents within new development areas and businesses in Sydney’s south west.

The Hoxton Park scheme will deliver recycled water to new homes under construction at Glenfield Road, the future residential housing estates of Edmondson Park and Ingleburn Gardens, and new land releases at Prestons and Cecil Hills.

The recycled water would be provided for outdoor use and toilet flushing, similar to Sydney Water’s other residential recycling scheme at Rouse Hill.

Sydney Water is also investigating providing recycled water to industrial and existing commercial customers at Ingleburn, Prestons and Hoxton Park Airport.

The scheme involves constructing a recycled water treatment plant and pumping station at Glenfield Sewage Treatment Plant, two recycled water reservoirs and about 20 kilometres of pipes to connect customers to the recycled water supply.

The Decisions Report is the final stage before construction and allows Sydney Water to address any feedback received from interested parties in response to the Review of Environmental Factors.

Sydney Water has identified a number of potential growth areas close to Glenfield Sewage Treatment Plant which could require an additional four billion litres per year of recycled water.

Sydney Water will investigate these opportunities which are located within the Liverpool, Moorebank, Holsworthy and Campbelltown areas as part of Stage 2 planning.

We have also slightly revised the pipeline route to accommodate the Roads and Traffic Authority’s requirements.

New developments like this are the best way to maximise the provision of recycled water to homes as the recycled water pipes can be laid at the same time as other infrastructure without disruption to residents and traffic.

Work on the scheme will be undertaken in two stages, in line with the construction of new housing developments.

Installation of the recycled water pipeline from the Glenfield Sewage Treatment Plant to customers for the first stage of the scheme will begin in 2008.

Construction of other essential infrastructure will follow soon after, including the recycled water treatment plant, pumping stations and reservoirs.

Completion of stage one is expected in 2010 and recycled water will be delivered to customers soon after.

Planning work for Stage 2 will commence in 2009, with construction completed in late 2013.
