Sewage Strategy

The SCA, as one of its key priorities has contributed to the improvement of sewage management in the country centres that are within the Nepean and Shoalhaven river catchments. These works are intended to improve the quality of water delivered to major storages for supply to metropolitan Sydney. In the 2003 financial year the following has been achieved:

  • Construction commenced on a $1.2 million effluent transfer main to increase the reliability of effluent re-use on Goulburn. When complete this main will overcome wet weather overflows of partially treated sewage at the Goulburn Sewage Treatment Plant.
  • Design upgrade for the Lithgow sewage treatment plant. The new facilities will dramatically reduce the impact of wet and dry-weather discharges to Farmers Creek in the upper reaches of the Coxs River.
  • The provision of sewerage facilities for Robertson moved forward with the finalisation of a strategy and selection of a site for the sewage treatment plant.
  • Environmental assessment was completed for an upgrade to the Bowral sewage treatment plant.
  • Evaluation of options for the upgrading of Wallerawang sewage treatment plant.
  • Gauging and modelling of the Goulburn sewerage reticulation system was completed and will be used as the basis for future rectification works.
