Managing leaks

Sydney Water crews are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to respond to leaks and breaks. Our improved leak and break response times are saving over 700 million litres of water a year.

Sydney Water assesses and prioritises every leak or break reported. Learn about the leak priority definitions and descriptions (PDF - 40KB) .

We send a crew out to inspect all reported leaks within 24 hours. An assessment is then made. If the leak requires urgent attention the job will be given a higher priority.

Priority is based on any threat to public health of our customers, the environment and/or property, and the loss of water.
