Recycled water plumbing

Recycled water is being provided in new growth areas in western Sydney. These suburbs have dual water supplies with two separate water mains - one for drinking water and one for recycled water.

Plumbing work in recycled water suburbs must be carried out by a licensed plumber and/or drainer. The plumbing requires particular care to ensure drinking water and recycled water pipes within homes are kept separate.

All new homes built in recycled water areas must have a series of Sydney Water plumbing inspections at various stages of construction. Alternations and extensions to plumbing or drainage also require inspections.

The NSW Guidelines for Urban and residential Use of Reclaimed Water describe requirements for plumbing and use of recycled water.
