This major new recycled water scheme will ultimately serve 16,000 new homes and 185 hectares of new industrial development in new release areas in and around Hoxton Park. The suburbs served will include Edmondson Park, Glenfield Road, Ingleburn Gardens, Inghams, Yarrunga, Cecil Hills (south) and South Hoxton Park Aerodrome.
Construction of pipelines is scheduled to begin in 2007, with recycled water expected to be available from 2009. Three new reservoirs will be built as part of the scheme. One reservoir will be located at South Hoxton Park, and two at Edmondson Park.
Sydney Water will provide homes in the area with two water supplies - recycled water and drinking water. This is known as dual reticulation. The recycled water taps, pipes and plumbing will be coloured purple to distinguish recycled water from drinking water.
Recycled water will be used for gardens and other outdoor uses, for toilet flushing and potentially cold water use in washing machines, as well as non-residential purposes.
For the Hoxton Park area, recycled water will be treated at new recycled water facilities at Sydney Water's Glenfield Sewage Treatment Plant. The recycled water will be treated to a very high standard. It will go through a complex series of treatment processes on top of the usual high level of treatment for wastewater.
