Location

Extends from Port Hacking and the southern edges of the Royal National Park in the north to Gerroa in the south. Includes two distinct landforms; the Coastal Plain (1 to 8kms wide) and the escarpment and slopes (highlands).

Vegetation Types

Tall open forests dominated by Eucalyptus saligna, E. pilularis

Closed Forests further subdivided into ;

-Warm Temperate Rainforest dominated by Coachwood and Livistona sp.
-Littoral Rainforest with Red Cedar
-Woodlands and Open Forest on the Woronora Plateau
-Heaths also found on the Woronora Plateau.

Soils

Variable: derived from Illawarra Coal Measures, Narrabeen shales and sandstone.

Coastal: Up to 300m above sea level

Highlands: 300-700m above sea level.

Coastal: average 1461mm per year

Highlands: average 1214mm per year

Highlands: 24 Degrees Celsius

Coastal: Nil

Highlands: Frequent in pockets during the winter months,: snow has been recorded at 300m but a rare event.
