Crews working safely while renewing the wastewater system - 30993

We're lining stormwater and wastewater pipes to prevent leaks.

About the rehabilitation work

We’re upgrading our wastewater and stormwater pipes across Sydney. This work will help prevent leaks in pipes for the next 50 years.

Crews guiding liner into 100 yr old brick sewer in Balmain - 30992

We may need to reline pipes at night to minimise impacts on traffic.

The work includes:

  • relining about 6.3 kilometres of small wastewater pipes
  • relining about 1.8 kilometres of large wastewater pipes
  • rehabilitating junctions in the wastewater pipe network
  • inspecting and repairing maintenance holes
  • cleaning wastewater and stormwater pipes
  • using closed circuit television (CCTV) to inspect wastewater and stormwater pipes before and after the work.

Specialist crews usually need to make several visits to affected properties. Each project takes about four weeks to complete.

This work is part of our SewerFix Program to:

  • improve the wastewater and stormwater systems
  • reduce wastewater overflows
  • protect public health and the environment.
