Refresh Woolloomooloo

We’re working toward our environmental goal of reducing wet weather wastewater overflows to Woolloomooloo Bay.

We're separating the currently combined wastewater and stormwater systems in Woolloomooloo. In the current system, wastewater from homes, businesses and industry is combined with stormwater in a single pipe.

Construction started in August 2017 and is expected to be finished by late 2019.

About Refresh Woolloomooloo

We're fixing what you can't see and that will make the biggest difference

The pipes in Woolloomooloo, Darlinghurst and Potts Point have been there since the 1800s. Only one pipe carries both wastewater and stormwater, which can cause odours. During heavy rain, some of the wastewater in these pipes overflows into Woolloomooloo Bay.

You've told us it's time for a change and we're with you

It's time the combined pipes are separated. By separating the pipes, a new pipe will carry wastewater straight to the treatment plant at Bondi and only stormwater will flow into the bay. You'll notice less odours around the area and a cleaner Woolloomooloo Bay.

We're making the bay a better place to enjoy and helping you breathe easier

When we're finished, Woolloomooloo will have a better wastewater and stormwater system compared to New York, Paris, London and Tokyo.

We started work in August 2017 and expect to finish in late 2019.
