  • Curtilage/Boundary
Curtilage to include the carrier and the whole of the arches exposed and in embankment. This would include any remnant fabric under Arncliffe Street and the rail crossing.
  • Statement of significance
The Arncliffe Sewage Aqueduct was completed in 1895 and is an integral and visible component of the original Western Main Carrier (now part of Southern and Western Suburbs Ocean Outfall Sewer System), which was one of the Board's major early sewerage schemes. It is one of the four aqueducts constructed for the Western Main Carrier. Albeit now substantially altered, it remains an excellent example of late 19th century decorative face brick and sandstone work. Elements of significance are the past and ongoing use, and technologies of construction.

  • e) Research
The face brickwork is a textbook example of the trade in a basically utilitarian structure, the likes of which will not be built again.

Rare in consideration of its mixed use of materials, and association with the Main Western Carrier scheme.
  • g) Representative
Representative in its function which is widespread across Sydney.
