    Background Summary

    Sydney Water owns and maintains around 25,000km of wastewater pipes and conduits, 677 sewer pumping stations (SPS), 28 wastewater treatment and water recycling plants (Treatment Plants) and around 450km of stormwater conduits including 75 Stormwater Quality Improvement Devices (SQIDs). Sydney Water requires the provision of the following services across its area of operations (including Sydney metropolitan, Illawarra and Blue Mountains regions):

    • silt and debris removal from Sydney Water’s wastewater and stormwater assets and conduits to ensure the maximum hydraulic capacity, and

    • Emergency Response and Support Services to protect the environmental and minimise public health risks.

    This tender for the services above have been divided into two separable portions:

    1. Separable Portion A: wastewater asset cleaning and Emergency Response and Support Services, and

    2. Separable Portion B: stormwater asset and SQID cleaning

    It is expected that a single supplier will be awarded both separable portions or two suppliers awarded one separable portion each.

    Separable Portion A: Wastewater Asset Cleaning and Emergency Response and Support Services

    Services includes:

    • silt and debris removal from grit pits and SPS

    • dredging of about 15-20 kilometres per annum of trunk wastewater pipes

    • cleaning of about 20 kilometres per annum of wastewater transfer mains

    • providing a 24/7 response to assist operational areas of Sydney Water with asset breakdowns, failures or system issues

    • vacuuming and transporting wastewater from pumping stations, other network assets and Treatment Plants

    • clearing of sewer blockages

    • cleaning of creeks and surrounding environments following wastewater surcharge events

    • programmed transport of sludge between some Treatment Plants

    • transport and disposal / recycling of waste removed from the above activities to licensed facilities

    Separable Portion B: Stormwater Asset and SQID Cleaning

    Services includes:

    • inspection and cleaning of SQIDs including booms, trash racks and gross pollutant traps

    • silt and debris removal from closed conduits, open stormwater channels, sediment basins, pits and drainage pumping stations

    • de-watering of conduits

    • spill clean-ups and emergency response services

    • transport and disposal / recycling of waste removed from the above activities to licensed facilities
