    Background Summary

Sydney Water Corporation (“Sydney Water”) is a statutory State owned corporation under the Sydney Water Act 1994 (NSW) and operates under the State Owned Corporations Act 1989 (NSW).

Sydney Water provides water and wastewater services to the Sydney metropolitan, Illawarra and Blue Mountains regions. Sydney Water has maintained the reputation of being a leader in water and wastewater service in Australia by providing this service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year

Sydney Water is responsible for the maintenance of over 23,000km of sewer pipes and tunnels and 450km of stormwater pipes and tunnels throughout its area of operation. Approximately 300km of these sewer pipes and tunnels and 54km of these stormwater pipes and tunnels are required to be inspected internally, via a traverse, for the purpose of a condition assessment (referred to as “Traverse Pipes and Tunnels”). These traverse inspections are carried out on a programmed basis and occasionally on a reactive basis.

As the inspection of the Traverse Pipes and Tunnels involves work to be carried out in confined spaces, continuous voice communication is required to be maintained throughout the traverse inspection between all members of the team carrying out the traverse and the support team(s) on the surface.

Additionally, rescue response capability is required throughout all traverses in the event that an emergency rescue or an evacuation needs to occur during a traverse. The traverse inspections involve working in Traverse Pipes and Tunnels under live flow conditions.

The purpose of this RFT is to engage a service provider to provide all communications expertise and equipment and emergency rescue capability for Sydney Water’s traverse team who are carrying out the internal inspections of Traverse Pipes and Tunnels.

Sydney Water is looking to engage one contractor for the provision of Services for a contract term of up to 4 years.
