    Background Summary

Sydney Water has been generating electricity from biogas at various Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTPs) since 1999. There are currently 8 cogeneration plants and 3 hydroelectric generation plants with a combined capacity of over 13 MW. The installed plants have a capacity to generate up to 80,000 MWh electricity per year thereby reducing over 80,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions, which is equivalent to removing 20,000 cars from the road.

The purpose of the Work is to provide and implement valued solutions in delivery of Operation and Maintenance (O&M) for Sydney Water’s Renewable Energy Generation (REG) assets. The work shall be efficient, cost effective and innovative to provide maximum energy generation from Sydney Water’s REG assets.

O&M of REG assets is to be aligned with:

    • Sydney Water’s strategic direction

    • The Energy and Greenhouse Gas Mitigation Strategy

The key objectives for REG O&M:

    • Realise the full potential of REG assets utilising the fuel provided by Sydney Water

    • Improvement of O&M activities to optimise the life cycle costs for REG assets

    • Safely deliver O&M with a customer focus to meet regulatory and legislative requirements
