Sydney Water is the regulator of plumbing and drainage in Sydney, the Illawarra and the Blue Mountains regions. That means we work in partnership with the plumbing industry to ensure that plumbing and drainage is of the highest quality.
Our regulatory responsibilities are defined in the Sydney Water Act 1994.
Plumbing and drainage work carried out in Sydney Water's area of operations must comply with the current version of the NSW Code of Practice, Plumbing and Drainage and Australia Standard AS/NZS 3500.
Generally Sydney Water accepts the responsibility, upon notification of a fault, for the maintenance, repair and renewal of the water service pipework from our watermain to the meter. The property owner is generally responsible for the maintenance of the water service from the connection point to our meter.
