A wastewater connection point is provided for eligible properties1 in the Priority Sewerage Program. The connection point may be provided as part of a gravity wastewater system or a pressure system. The use of different systems is based on environmental, technical, social and financial considerations.
Property owners are responsible for the pipes between the connection point and their home or business. Protecting these pipes (PDF - 938KB) is important. Putting the wrong things down the toilet, sink or outdoor drain can block pipes and cause them to overflow, polluting our environment.
Pressure wastewater systems use individual pumps located in collection tanks installed on each property. Wastewater from the home or business is pumped from the collection tank to the pipe network in the street. Sydney Water owns and maintains the on-property pump for eligible residential properties and some smaller businesses. To find out if your property is eligible, please call the Community Relations team on 1800 006 326.
Sydney Water has been successfully operating pressure systems for a number of years. Jamberoo, Belimbla Park, Stanwell Park, Coalcliff and Otford were among the first areas to be serviced with this technology.
For more information property owners can refer to their Home Owner's Manual (PDF - 547KB) or our fact sheet on pressure wastewater systems (PDF - 95KB) .
If you recently bought a property in a pressure wastewater connection area, please call the Community Relations team on 1800 006 326 for information about connecting.

With this system, wastewater from each property flows under gravity to the pipe network and then on to a pumping station. Pipes may need to be laid underneath footpaths, roads, private property or parks to allow the wastewater to flow by gravity.

1 Please note that properties created as a result of a subdivision after scheme approval are not eligible for a subsidised connection. Other eligibility criteria may also apply. Learn more about connection requirements.
