Secondary school, university, TAFE and community groups in Sydney Water's area of operations (JPG - 1297KB) can book tours at many Sydney Water facilities. Tours are available at two water filtration plants, seven sewage treatment plants and the Rouse Hill Sewage Treatment and Water Recycling Plant.
Take an online tourThis online tour lets you explore different ways to use water wisely in your home and garden. |
The plants are working environments, so tours are not available for primary students. Groups of up to 50 can be accommodated. When you book a tour, a Sydney Water education officer will contact the group's representative to discuss requirements.
The group receives a presentation putting the plant in the context of the water cycle and introducing the key concepts and processes of water and wastewater treatment and recycling.
The group receives a health and safety briefing and then walks through the plant. A guide describes the processes used at different locations throughout the tour.
After the tour, the group returns to the meeting room with an opportunity to ask questions and find out more about Sydney Water's operations. Brochures about the facility are available. Groups spend about two hours at the plant.
Read about the features of each plant that can be visited including their location, the requirements and health and safety advice.
Sydney's dams are managed by the Sydney Catchment Authority. Educational visits are available to Warragamba Dam.
