For customers in financial difficulty, Sydney Water has a special home maintenance service, which provides access to affordable private plumbing repairs.
While customers will be required to pay for these services, there are flexible cost recovery methods in place to help customers.
Sydney Water works with a number of community agencies to offer this service in the community. Customer’s needs are assessed by these participating agencies.
To be eligible for this service, customers must meet all the following conditions:
be the owner-occupier of the residence.
the dwelling must be the owner occupier’s principal place of residence.
customers must be assessed by an external agency as being in acute need and unable to afford plumbing repairs.
plumbing work that can be funded under the program include taps, toilets, hot water systems, internal plumbing and outdoor pipes.
For customers who have difficulty in turning taps, Sydney Water can provide a special tap turner. This device can be easily fitted over the top of a tap and makes turning it on or off easier. It is available through the following participating branches of the St Vincent De Paul Society.

WaterFix
Sydney Water can supply and install water saving fittings to help you save water. WaterFix provides a qualified plumber who will:
install water efficient showerheads, flow regulators for taps and flush restrictors for single flush toilets
check and repair minor leaks.
Customers can have a WaterFix service for $22 (valued at $180). You can phone 1800 995 886 from 8.00 am to 8.00 pm Monday to Friday or 8.00 am to 2.00 pm Saturday. Waterfix your home.
Free fittings for pensioners, Health Care Card holders and large households
Sydney Water offers free installation of Waterfix devices to pensioners, Health Care card holders and large households.

Do-it-yourself water saving kits
Sydney Water offers free water saving kits for customers who want to install water saving devices themselves. The kits contain flow regulators for showers and aerators for taps. These kits are only available to customers who have not had a WaterFix installation.
With a flow regular installed, you can save around 29,900 litres per year. This means a saving of up to $50 a year on your water and energy bills.
