Installing a water meter

Are you about to connect water services to your property?

The first step is to apply to Sydney Water for permission to establish a water service connection and to obtain a water meter. Remember, water meters can only be fitted by Sydney Water or a licensed plumber.

To help make this process as simple as possible Sydney Water has a set of guidelines in place for the issuing and fitting of water meters.

Trial of water meters for new apartments and units

As part of the water conservation campaign and enabling customers to monitor and manage their own consumption, Sydney Water is trialling the adoption of sophisticated technologies and methods to measure the water being used in new apartments and units.

One trial has each unit's water meter connected to a data logger, which can send usage information via General Packet Radio System (GPRS) technology to Sydney Water.

Sydney Water would then be able to send individual water usage bills for each unit.

Having their own water meter would provide several benefits to residents of units, allowing them to monitor their own use and in turn encourage further water savings.
