Metered standpipe

Metered standpipes are used to obtain water directly from hydrants for approved activities such as construction, concrete sawing, dust suppression and water carting.

Sydney Water does not allow standpipes to be used for agricultural, private or domestic use or to supply water to premises as an alternative to a normal property water service.

Metered standpipes can only be purchased from authorised suppliers.

Before you purchase a standpipe you must complete an application form. The use of the standpipe is subject to Terms and Conditions.

Use of a standpipe on Sydney Water hydrants without a valid permit is considered theft of water. Fines of $2,200 apply for water theft.
